The gardens you see today were constructed in the early eighteenth century by the Houblon family. The aim was to give the house and grounds the appearance of a Georgian gentleman’s residence. The same residing family were responsible for the early landscaping, including planting the vista in the fields to the west of the house.
The central water feature and terraces were carefully built in the 1940s, utilising the natural slope of the land with shallow steps leading down to the lily pond.
Today, Annie Johnson’s team diligently maintain the NGS accredited gardens, which have featured in many horticultural publications and are open to the public several times a year.

Pig roast, Teas, Bar, various stalls.
Children free. Dogs welcome on leads. Free parking.
Book tickets online with NGS or pay at entrance £8.00 by card.
